Write about what you know - but you can know almost anything. You just have to do the research.

Be bold. Don't write for commercial success. Write something you're really, really proud of. If you're trying to catch a trend, or write something you partially disapprove of, it will show. Writing fiction is one of the most honest things you will ever, ever do.
